The currency in the entire USA is US Dollars and is often expressed as $ or USD. Most of the hotels, restaurants and public places accept all major international credit and debit cards. Some of them do not accept American Express cards. There are ATM cash withdrawal machines at the most public places, which are free mostly, but some do charge.

5. Local Transport: Taxis & Public Transport

Landing at Newark Airport

Participants will find a variety of options for travel from Newark airport. A detailed guide is found on the site http://www.panynj.gov/airports/ewr-ground-transportation.html

In summary. participants can choose to use the AirTrain to travel within the airport or to New Jersey transit rail or path train stops. Taxis are offered outside of the airport, but participants should visit the Port Authority Welcome Center located in the arrivals area of each terminal where uniformed staff will be happy to assist with taxi service. Here are some Newark airport cab companies with telephone numbers just in case the ones found outside aren’t present. Please note that many hotels in the area offer complimentary Newark airport shuttle service (pick up and drop off). So please check with your hotel while booking.

Landing at J F Kennedy Airport

Participants flying into J F Kennedy (JFK) airport have the some general options. The link to the ground transportation guide is http://www.panynj.gov/airports/jfk-ground-transportation.html

Participants can use the Airtrain to connect to rail or take a cab. For those going to Manhattan or heading to New Jersey must get to Jamaica Station via AirTrain then take either the Long Island Rail Road train or MTA NYC Transit Subway E to Midtown Manhattan New York Penn Station. From New York Penn there are trains available to New Jersey (Newark Penn or other locations).

For cabs, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, instructs participants to visit the Port Authority Welcome Center located in the arrivals area of each terminal, where uniformed staff will be happy to assist you. Alternatively, you may head directly for the taxi stand located outside each terminal for safe and legitimate transportation (cabs to Newark about 120 dollars, Manhattan flat fee of 52 excluding tolls and tips). Here are some other airport cab companies with telephone numbers just in case the ones found outside aren’t present. Please note that many hotels in the area offer complimentary JFK airport shuttle service (pick up and drop off). So please check with your hotel while booking.

Taxi for travelling in and around the Conference Venue

Kindly check with your Hotel first if they are able to provide Free Shuttle Car / Bus or paid on meter Taxis to the Kean University. Many Hotels will do this for free.

Newark airport also offers a shuttle bus to Newark train station by each terminal for about 5 or 6 dollars. Participants should ask to be directed to these shuttle buses by airport staff if they have no other plans of reaching Newark train station.

Public Transport

The website for local transportation via train, bus, and light rail is www.njtransit.com in New Jersey and www.mta.info for New York.

Please check this link http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.srv?hdnPageAction=TrainTo for all the train schedules to and from Union Train Station (which is at the Kean University). You may simply select the origin station (e.g. Newark Penn Station, Elizabeth Station, Union Station, New York Penn), along with the destination (wherever it may be), and the date of travel and a train schedule will come up. Please note that while weekly schedules are the same, trains’ weekend schedules are different.

6.  Internet & Phone

Free Wi-Fi internet is available at the IMRA-Kean International Conference venue at the campus of Kean University. Usually, all the hotels provide free Wi-Fi internet facility. However, it is suggested that the participants should confirm this with the hotel before booking.

Local phone booths are available at all the public places. They may be little bit expensive though. A cheaper local phone option is to buy a mobile phone SIM card from shops and that can make you contactable with a local mobile phone number. Calling abroad using this SIM card may be little expensive.

We are planning to have Group Sight Seeing Guided Tour of New York City on Sunday 1st June 2014 starting at 10:00 AM.

Meeting point and time: The participants who have registered for this New York City Sight Seeing Tour will assemble on Sunday 1st June at 10 AM at Gray Line Tours, 777, 8th Avenue (between 47th & 48th Street), New York, NY 10036. In case you are not able to reach on time, your tickets will still be valid and you can join another bus as there are frequent of them.
